Hello from London!

I ended up having more time in London than expected due to a positive COVID test, so I am determined to make the most of it. I can’t wait to be out of the isolation period and explore even more of the city. I am becoming an expert about Bushy Park near Hampton Court, southwest of the city center. Here are my observations of life staying in nice London vs living in nice Houston. I’ll begin with the “cons” and finish with the “pros” of my host city:

London Cons

•People’s fascination with prawns- salad, sandwiches, you name it. It’s everywhere. Meh

•Bottled water- expensive and relatively inaccessible

•Midges- who knew? #itchy

•Few good salads- Chickpeas and pasta are not salad

•Coffee- I’ve tried a lot of it in 2 weeks and it’s not their thing. I’ll keep trying.

•No washcloths or top sheets- I love linens. Lots of them.

London Pros

•Heated towel racks- genius

•Naming houses- charming

•Reusable bags required everywhere- smart (if I remember to bring them)

•Public transport- amazing

•GREAT signage- helpful

•Language- lovely (getting “sorted,” “take away,” “give way” are 3 faves)

•Pret a Manger restaurant- super great

•Scones- yum, haven’t yet met one I didn’t like

•Parks- gorgeous

•Avocado- good people, I knew I liked you

•Daffodils- spring here is lovely

This picture is from my morning walk at Bushy Park, a respite from the boredom of isolation for this extrovert. Amazing isn’t it?

Things I’m glad I packed but was hesitant to:

•Tennis shoes- didn’t want to look like a tourist but comfort matters

•Crossbody bag- bought one just for the trip, no regrets!

•Top sheet- most places have just the duvet with no top sheet. It’s a must for regulating temperature while sleeping

•A sweatshirt- just in case.

Things I wish I had packed:

•Bug repellant

•More socks

•A reusable water bottle

•Washcloths

•A raincoat (I thought I’d be inside the whole time!)

•Home COVID tests
