3 Marketing Mistakes You are Probably Making that Hurt Sales

Have you ever looked at your website and wondered why it's not bringing you more customers? Well I’ve wondered about this, so I went for some training on this subject. I am now a better resource to my clients about how our marketing and sales can work together to provide better sales leads. Here are 3 mistakes I learned at the StoryBrand Certification course that helped me redesign my website to improve sales:

1: Unclear Home Page on your website.

Most of us need a 2-sentence Value Proposition (some people call this an Elevator Pitch) that is free of jargon and sits front and center on your website. If your website doesn’t convey information simply and in a straightforward way, you’ll lose your visitor’s attention. And because so much research is done online before a customer even speaks to a salesperson, critical revenue is at risk if your company’s offer is too confusing.

2: Not Collecting Email Addresses from your site

The reality is that no matter how hard we try to be super clear on our home page of our site, people are sometimes just browsing and they aren’t ready to buy. You want to have a way to give something of value to people in exchange for their email address so you can stay in touch. This type of information could be downloadable pdf about your unique knowledge in your industry, or you could offer a short quiz to site visitors. Consider providing access to a limited or free trial or a discount code, etc...

3: Not Doing Something with Those Email Addresses

I often hear that people have trouble getting started with email marketing, because they feel like they can’t do an email blast if they aren’t ready to send an email out to the whole list every week. This is not true! You can email monthly with a super simple email that includes a free tip, a case study, and an offer to buy something as a starting point. Better to stay “top of mind” and get in their email box monthly than do nothing at all.

It's important to pause periodically and make sure your plans for business growth are working. I think you’ll find that correcting these mistakes will help pave the way more effective marketing.
