The sales trip of a lifetime

Let’s take a trip together! Imagine you and your family are traveling to a new city you’ve never visited.

You’re excited to spend the day at the popular theme park which was recommended by a friend.

But when you arrive, the very pleasant greeter tells you all the signage in the park has been removed for painting and it hasn’t been reinstalled yet. “Ok,” you think to yourself, “We can navigate this. We’ve come this far and I don’t want to disappoint the kids.”

So you step through the gate and start your adventure.

Wow. It’s not easy. No one can easily find the rides or the snacks they want. Everyone looks lost.

You ask an employee (surely she can tell you where to go) where the restrooms are and she points and says, “They’re to the left of the Chicken Little Swings.” You walk in the direction she pointed but the ride she mentioned is nowhere to be seen. Maybe it's this way, you think to yourself. You keep wandering.

The first few hours have made you exhausted and the kids are frazzled. Your feet are killing you from all the extra steps you’re having to take to try to get to where you want to go. And your nerves are stressed out. You decide to give up and leave before lunch.

If only the park had provided a guide.

In sales, you are the Guide to your buyer. They come to speak with you looking for a solution. When you’ve listened to where they want to go, show them how to get there with you. Make it easy every step of the way: on your website, in marketing emails, Zoom calls, conversations, etc.

Be sure to make each step clear or you’ll lose them. Remember, this is a path you know well but they do not.
